Warning
After Warwick Pensioner Conned
Police
are warning elderly people in south Warwickshire to be on their guard
after a pensioner was conned by a dodgy trader.
The
victim was approached at his house in Cliffe Way, Warwick, by a man
who told him that he needed guttering work to be done.
He
agreed that it should be carried out and that the price would be £1,500.
But
the tradesman came back to his house and demanded £1,800 in cash,
which the pensioner handed over.
It
is estimated that the work carried out should have cost around £400
at the most.
Police
are trying to trace the workman, who said he worked for a Kenilworth
firm called Prestige Plastics. He had left a telephone number with his
victim, but it turned out to be false.
Officers
are warning elderly people not to accept work from people on the
doorstep, and to check the credentials of any company to make sure
they are reputable.
