Bones Found
On Coventry Building Site
Bones
believed to be human remains have been discovered at the site of the
new Coventry University library.
They
were discovered at 10.30am by workman excavating a section of land in
Far Gosford Street.
Police
were called and the area was cordoned off while investigations were
carried out.
A
police spokeswoman said that officers were satisfied that they were
ancient bones.
Archaeologists
at Coventry City Council have been called in to examine the find.
It
is believed that there was a Saxon burial site nearby, and the bones
might relate to that.
The
£16 million building is being built on the site of the old Gulson
Road Hospital.
The
state-of-the-art library at the rear of William Morris Building in
Gosford Street, includes major landscaping to improve the area
surrounding it.
