Robbers shattered a window with
a kerbstone before stealing more than £1,000 from a post office in
Mancetter yesterday.
They pulled up outside the shop
in Manor Road in the village near Atherstone at 4.50pm in a silver Ford
Mondeo.
The pair, both men, threw the
heavy stone through the front window of the post office, causing the
glass to shatter.
The 27-year-old postmaster and
his wife were both inside at the time, but were uninjured. They fled to
the back room of the store for safety.
Once the glass had broken the
two men came into the shop and took some money out of the safe, which
was open because the postmaster had been cashing up.
The crooks then drove off in the
Ford Mondeo. A witness followed them as they drove at high speed down
the A5 in the middle of the road towards Nuneaton, but later lost them.
Police are appealing for anyone
who saw them before, during or after the raid to come forward.
The first man was black, heavily
built, and was wearing dark clothing. His accomplice was slightly
slimmer and wore a balaclava, making further identification impossible.
Anyone
with information should call DC Nobby Clark at Atherstone CID on 01827
