A hunt is on for arsonists who
caused £50,000 damage to a Nuneaton supermarket last night.
Police are looking for a group
of five teenagers seen hanging around the rear of the Co-op store in
Abbey Street shortly before a blaze broke out.
The fire was spotted by
patrolling officers at 10.20pm. The blaze was quickly put out but the
flames caused a lot of damage.
Police say the fire started in a
skip but then spread to a generator store and then to the main building.
Around £10,000 damage was
caused to the building and £20,000 of stock was ruined. The cost of
replacing the generators is also estimated at £20,000.
Shop managers say the food hall
will not be open until repairs are complete.
Detectives
investigating the case say there were four boys and a girl seen near the
shop before the fire and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them
on 01926 415000.
