A Nuneaton man was killed at the
weekend when the car in which he was a passenger became wedged under a
lorry after an accident.
Mark Chaplin, aged 33, died
instantly after the crash in Astley Lane, Bedworth on Friday at 5.25pm.
He was travelling in a black E-reg
Vauxhall Astra, which was embedded under an HGV driven by Paul Wells,
aged 29, of Westbury Road, Nuneaton.
Firefighters battled for an hour
to get everyone out of the Astra and a special trauma team from
Birmingham’s Selly Oak hospital was brought in.
Two air ambulances were used to
transport the victims needing specialist attention to the Birmingham
hospital.
They were driver Richard
Warmington, aged 33, of Mallard Drive, Nuneaton, who suffered multiple
injuries, and John Ashby, aged 40, also from Nuneaton.
A third passenger, Steven Evans,
aged 19, from Brackendale Drive, Nuneaton, was treated at the George
Eliot hospital for shock.
Mr Chaplin, of Sherbourne
Avenue, Nuneaton, was certified dead when he was taken to George Eliot
hospital
Mr Wells, the driver of the HGV,
was uninjured in the accident.
Police are appealing for any
witnesses to come forward so they can piece together what happened.
