Bomb disposal experts were called to a rubbish tip near Atherstone
yesterday after a live hand grenade was discovered.
Ministry of Defence experts were called out when a worker at the
waste disposal site in Spon Lane, Grendon found the explosive in a bag
that had been dumped in a skip.
It was rusty brown in colour and had a blue handle and the letters
FUZE written on the side.
The area was cleared after the discovery at 3.10pm while the device
was made safe.
It is believed that the device is more recent than the Second World
War, but police do not know how it got there.
