Seventeen people were injured and the south of
Coventry grid-locked after a traffic accident this morning.
An articulated lorry and a West Midlands Travel bus were in collision at the junction
of Daventry Road and London Road just after 7.30am.
Fifteen passengers from the bus needed treatment at the scene for various injuries but
both drivers were taken to hospital.
The bus driver suffered multiple injuries but they are not thought to be
life-threatening. The lorry driver also suffered multiple injuries but he is not as
serious as the bus driver.
The two roads are among the busiest in the city during the morning rush hour and police
had to divert traffic around the scene using the Cheylesmore by-pass and the Daventry
Road.
Police have also sent an accident investigation unit to the scene.
UPDATE
The driver of the bus has been named as 35 year old Terry Keane of Pole road, Coventry.
Gary Hodkins the lorry driver from South Yorkshire is 40 years old and has cuts and
abrasions to both his hands. He is not expected to stay in hospital. Although
the bus passengers have not been named it is known that the youngest was 17 and the oldest
59 years old.

A Warwickshire man killed when his car was in collision with a stationary lorry on the
Fosse Way between Princethorpe and Stretton-on-Dunsmore has been named. He was Malcolm
Colledge (54) of Windmill Way, Southam.
His silver Volvo hit the lorry, which was parked in a lay-by, and he died at the scene
Police are appealing for witnesses to accident, which happened at 6.45am on Wednesday.
