Police are questioning a Coventry man about an
alleged rape of a 16-year-old Nuneaton girl.
The girl, from Stockingford, was attacked and abducted by a stranger as she walked down
Croft Road at 11.30pm on Sunday night. She was attacked from behind by the White Lion pub.
She was forced into a car and her attacker then drove out into the country, possibly in
the Galley Common or Ansley areas, where she was raped.
He then drove back towards the town centre after about an hour but was spotted by a
police patrol car. After a short chase the man ran off into a building site in Upper Abbey
Street but was arrested from a roof-top.
The man, aged 22, is being held at Bedworth Police Station but has not been charged.
Detective Chief Inspector Graham Moreton said:
"Thankfully the victim suffered only minor physical injuries and is now at home
with her parents resting and is trying to come to terms with what has been a terrible
ordeal.
"We know this girl was attacked at about 11.30pm last night and was dragged back
up Croft Road towards Heath End Road where his car was parked, a blue C-reg Montego.
"If anyone saw the incident or the car at that or any other location that night
please contact police at Nuneaton Police Station."
A police spokesman said that the incident has not been linked to any other attacks.
