Police are making an urgent appeal for witnesses
after a Coventry postal worker was stabbed during a robbery.
The attack happened at around 2pm on Monday when two youths pulled up on a green and
yellow KMX off-road motorbike, outside the Upper Stoke Post Office in Coventry Road.
One of the pair remained outside while the other entered the post office and
immediately made his way to the back of the building.
The attacker then began a struggle with the 32-year-old postal worker before knifing
him and taking an unknown quantity of money which police say was in a grey cash box.
Both youths, who are described as slim males around 5'5" tall and wearing dark
jackets and balaclavas, then escaped on the bike down Avon Street and were last seen in
Hermes Way.
The victim was taken to hospital where he was detained for observation but is not
thought to be badly hurt.
A Post Office Spokesman said:
"This was an horrific incident where somebody was just doing his job and was
subjected to a traumatic attack.
"Fortunately the man was not seriously injured. If anyone has any information we
would urge them to contact police."
Police say that there were several people around at the time of the attack and are
appealing for anyone who may have information about the incident or where the duo went
after they were last seen, to contact them on 01203 559040.
