Alan Ayckbourn's hit comedy Things We Do For Love is to
tour the UK from 2 March to 5 June 1999 following its hugely successful West End-run.
Directed by Mark Rayment, Things We Do For Love stars Belinda Lang continuing in her role
as Barbara and Andrew Hall as Hamish.
This hit comedy is a witty look at love, whether we can do without it and more
importantly, once we have it, how we will do almost anything to hang on to it.
Barbara is resolutely single, having dedicated her life to her career as secretary to
the powerful city executive Marcus. Her neat little world is as carefully and quietly
organised as her neat little flat, with few distractions save the relentlessly cheerful
Gilbert who lives downstairs. However, when an old school friend Nikki and her fiancee
Hamish rent the flat upstairs, her life is turned upside down and back to front.
The tour cast are Belinda Lang whose-theatre credits include Dead Funny, On Approval
and Blithe Spirit at Chichester. Belinda is perhaps best known for her role as
Bill in BBC's 2 Point 4 Children. Andrew Hall probably best known for his role as
Russell in the hit BBC sit-com Butterflies, plays Hamish. Lucy Scott, recently on TV as
Charlotte Lucas in BBC's Pride & Prejudice, is Nikki with Adrian McLoughlin as
Gilbert.
Things We Do For Love, Alan Ayckbourn's 52nd play, was premiered at the Stephen Joseph
Theatre, Scarborough in April 1997 before transferring to the West End in March 1998 for a
year long run at the Gielgud and Duchess Theatres. This latest production is directed by
Mark Rayment, based on the original production directed by Alan Ayckbourn, with designs by
Roger Glossop, lighting by Mick Hughes and music by John Pattison. It is presented on tour
by Michael Codron and Lee Dean.
