Pedestrian
Dies In Coventry Road Accident
A
24-year-old man was killed early this morning after he was struck
by a car as he walked along a Coventry road.
The
man, who is not thought to be from the area, was walking down
Gibbet Hill Road at 12.36am when the accident happened.
He
was later pronounced dead at Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital.
Efforts to identify him are continuing.
His
26-year-old friend who was going from the University of Warwick
area towards Kenilworth Road was uninjured.
Following
the incident a 49-year-old man was arrested. He is currently in
custody helping police with their enquiries.
Insp
Mick Sharp, head of traffic at Fletchamstead Police Station called
for any witnesses to come forward.
He
said:
“I
would appeal to anyone who saw the two men walking along Gibbet
Hill Road or a red Ford Fiesta in the area to contact us
urgently.
“The
car was travelling from the Kenilworth Road towards the
university.”
Gibbet
Hill Road was closed until 8am while accident investigators tried
to reconstruct the incident.
