Officers Mobilised In Nuneaton Fracas
Police
were called to Nuneaton town centre from all over north Warwickshire
last night as a mass brawl broke out.
A
police officer was kicked in the head and body as the ruckus got out
of hand.
PC
Steve Burgess was treated for bruises at George Eliot Hospital, but
was not seriously injured.
A
large crowd gathered outside the Pen and Wig pub in Church Street at
11pm as a number of scuffles broke out.

officers were called in from Atherstone, Bedworth, Coleshill, and even
the motorway police to control the disturbance.
Five
people were eventually arrested and the crowd was dispersed after an
hour.
A
27-year-old Nuneaton man and 20-year-old from Banks Hill were arrested
on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and committing minor public
order offences.
A
22-year-old Nuneaton man and a man aged 20 from Galley Common were
charged in connection with the assault on PC Burgess.
A
17-year-old was later arrested and released on bail after being
questioned about a public order offence.
